Who We Are

Our Coalition

Angat Pilipinas Coalition for Financial Literacy, Inc. is a global non-profit organization composed of active and former Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and personal finance advocates. We come together to share knowledge on entrepreneurship, investment, and financial literacy — all toward the goal of poverty alleviation in the Philippines.

Our roots trace back to October 2009, when the group began as AngatBayan on Friendster and Yahoo groups, inspired by the devastation of Typhoon Ondoy and a shared desire to uplift fellow Filipinos through financial education.

The Angat Pilipinas Coalition for Financial Literacy brings together former and active Overseas Filipino Workers alongside personal finance advocates who share a common mission. This global non-profit organization dedicates itself to spreading knowledge about entrepreneurship, investment, and money management across the Philippines. By pooling the real-world experiences of OFWs who have worked abroad and the expertise of financial educators, the coalition creates practical learning opportunities for Filipino communities. Their work focuses on equipping individuals with the skills needed to make sound financial decisions, break cycles of debt, and build sustainable livelihoods that can lift families out of poverty over time.

The coalition's origins date back to informal online gatherings on social platforms where Filipinos discussed ways to help fellow citizens recover from natural disasters through better financial preparedness. What began as a small group of concerned individuals evolved into a structured organization committed to advancing financial literacy nationwide. Members volunteer their time to conduct seminars, create educational materials, and mentor young Filipinos on topics ranging from basic budgeting to long-term investment strategies. This grassroots approach ensures that financial education reaches those who need it most, particularly in underserved communities and public schools across the country.

Financial literacy serves as the foundation for poverty alleviation, and the coalition pursues this goal by making complex financial concepts accessible to everyday Filipinos. Through classroom sessions, community workshops, and digital content, they teach practical skills such as saving discipline, managing personal finances, and understanding investment fundamentals. The organization believes that when people gain control over their money, they gain the confidence to pursue better opportunities for themselves and their families. This vision of an empowered, financially literate Philippines drives every initiative the coalition undertakes, from local barangay programs to broader national campaigns.
